Pour Sizes for Wine and Spirits, in Milliliters
The US standard drink in milliliters, glasses per bottle and what air does to a red.
What counts as one drink
In the United States, one standard drink contains about 14 grams, or about 0.6 fluid ounces, of pure alcohol.
A 5-ounce glass of wine at 12% alcohol by volume
A 1.5-ounce shot glass of distilled spirits at 40% alcohol by volume
A wine glass holds far more than one drink, so a free pour is hard to judge by eye.
A dispenser takes the guessing out. Convert the US measure to milliliters once and set it.

Glasses per bottle
A set pour also tells you how far a bottle goes. For a dinner of six, a 120 ml pour gives everyone one glass from a single bottle.

What air does to red wine
A young red is tight when the cork comes out. Contact with air softens its tannins and lets the aroma rise, which is the reason for a decanter.
A pump that mixes air into the stream does the same job in the time it takes to pour. Old, delicate wines are the exception: they fade fast, so pour them gently and drink them soon.
