Which pump fits a 5 gallon water jug?
Both Redsack pumps fit a standard 5 gallon jug: the SP-02 and the SP-03 each move 4,000 ml a minute and reach the bottom of the bottle. For 1 and 2 gallon bottles only the SP-03 fits, with its adapter.
The jug caps follow the neck, not the volume. They seal necks of 55 to 60 mm, the size found on 2 to 5 gallon refill bottles.
| Bottle | SP-02 Water Pump | SP-03 Water Pump | Silicone Jug Caps |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 gallon | Does not fit | Fits, with the adapter | Does not fit |
| 2 gallon | Does not fit | Fits, with the adapter | Fits |
| 3 gallon | Fits | Fits | Fits |
| 5 gallon | Fits | Fits | Fits |
How heavy is a full 5 gallon water jug?
About 42 lb of water, before you count the bottle. Water weighs 62.4 lb per cubic foot, which works out to 8.3 lb a gallon.
That weight is the reason for a pump. With the SP-02 or SP-03 the jug stays upright on the floor, and nobody turns it over onto a stand.
| Bottle | Water inside | Weight of the water |
|---|---|---|
| 1 gallon | 3.8 liters | 8.3 lb |
| 2 gallon | 7.6 liters | 16.7 lb |
| 3 gallon | 11.4 liters | 25 lb |
| 5 gallon | 18.9 liters | 41.7 lb |
How many bottles does one pump charge empty?
About 15 five-gallon jugs: one charge of a Redsack pump moves about 75 gallons. With 3 gallon bottles that is 25 bottles.
The pump needs no outlet while it works. Charge it by USB-C at home and it runs for weeks on a kitchen counter, or for a whole trip in a camper.
| Bottle | Bottles per charge | Glasses of 200 ml per bottle |
|---|---|---|
| 1 gallon | 75 | 18 |
| 2 gallon | 37 | 37 |
| 3 gallon | 25 | 56 |
| 5 gallon | 15 | 94 |
